It is the main reason visitors come to Sibiel: hundreds of glass icons gathered by the village priest.
About the place
The collection was started in the late 1960s by the priest Zosim Oancea, who asked villagers to donate old icons. The current building went up between 1976 and 1983. The cimec museum guide lists 700 glass icons, other sources more than 600, from Nicula, the Mureș valley, Făgăraș, Brașov and Mărginimea Sibiului.
There are also paintings on wood, furniture, pottery, old books and documents. The cimec guide gives summer hours of 8–13:30 and 14–20 and winter hours of 7–13:30 and 14–19, without naming the days.
