It is one of the few Romanesque churches in Transylvania kept without later changes, and it has a living wedding-stone custom.
About the place
The basilica has three aisles and a funnel-shaped west portal of finely cut stone. Of the fortification, the ring wall and its towers remain. Inside is a memorial to village soldiers who died in World War I.
A legend says men had to roll a boulder up the hill before their wedding, and the stones were used for defence. The custom goes on: on their wedding day, grooms push large stones up the hill. The village was almost entirely Saxon until after 1989.
