It is a day hike that starts right from the village and climbs the highest point in the eastern Cindrel Mountains.
About the place
Trail 13, marked with a blue cross, starts in the village centre, crosses the Râușor stream and climbs a steep path in bends through the forest. On the ridge it meets the trails from Cisnădie and reaches Vârful Măgura, with views over the Sadu valley and the hills around. The trail goes on to the Rosengarten shelter in Poiana Trandafirilor.
The Munții Noștri atlas gives the whole trail, to the shelter, as 8.7 km, 908 m of ascent and 4 to 4½ hours. Trail 12, marked with a red triangle, climbs to the same summit from Cisnădie: 5.5 km, 737 m of ascent, 2¼ to 2¾ hours.
Good to know
- Bring water and rain gear; mountain weather changes fast.
- On trail 12 from Cisnădie the waymarks are sparse in places, according to the atlas.
- On the way back you can eat at Apfelhaus or Kamin in the village.
